Voting is in, and the first Euromeet trip of 2019 is to the Three Frontiers of France, Germany, and Switzerland! This thread is now open for suggestions.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

With a clear win for April 13th-21st, and perhaps a not-so-clear win for the Three Frontiers, we officially have our date and location set for Europpomeet 2019.

Historically, we have used the weekdays for driving and activities, and the weekends on either side for travel to and from the meet. Last year in Wales we also used two separate ‘hubs’ - each for half of the week - where we slept, drank, and planned our daily adventures. We plan to do the same this year, and what we need now is your input on where to drive, and what to see.

What we’ve got:

The Region (Roughly)

Kinja'd!!!

!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

Routes and Driving

At the moment the field is wide-open, provided the routes and roads are in and around the Three Frontiers region. Some of the areas that have been suggested already are Vosges, Jura, and the Black Forest. Once we have a collection of excellent driving roads, we can better define where our hubs will be.

!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

Whether it be vinyards, museum nerdgasms, or a private racetrack -we need things to do for a week. Previous trips have included: The Nurburgring, Spa Francorchamps, various motor and race museums, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

We are planning on introducing a new element; a rally. This is not about finishing a route in a specific time, but rather finding checkpoints or landmarks, maybe being somewhat forced to use a (paper) road map and a compass. We were thinking of something for 1 or 2 days, preferably two-man teams per car(?) - Ideas and interest are welcome.

Th at’s it! State your case in the comments with maps, images, first-hand tales, hand-drawn masterpieces, or whatever you feel necessary. Take your time on this, we need well-sorted suggestions. If you don’t have any suggestions at all, just recommend the ones you like.

If you need an example, this post from Texa is both relevant and chock-full of interesting things: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

If you are only joining us now, just because you haven’t been part of it so far doesn’t mean you’re unable to join us! Everyone is welcome and can join at any time. Send us an email at europpomeet@gmail.com

This will be reposted over the next week or so.

Well this is definitely a must visit in my opinion: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cité_de_l%27Automobile

The biggest car collection in the world (520 cars of which 400 are displayed) AND the biggest Bugatti collection in the world (123 cars)

I’ll try to add some more routes and things to see later.

Road suggestion: Route des Crê tes. Pretty much a must-do, this runs along the main ridge of the Vosges, with brilliant views. Can be quite busy.

Suggested stops: l e Hohneck and le Grand Ballon, two of the highest peaks in the Vosges.

Zurich seems to be the biggest one missing in that list. Basel might work as well.

You could also consider Paris (optionally taking the TGV to Strasbourg), Brussels or Luxembourg, especially if you’re planning to visit Verdun or the Maginot Line on the way.

A suggestion for a trip from France into Switzerland to lake Geneva (lac Léman) and back into France. The begin and end point are chosen completely arbitrary, but it gives some ideas. Especially the loop on the right looks interesting:

The first part is great (it’s called the “Défilé d’entre-roche”), the second half not so much. And it may be a bit busy depending on the day (although it’s busy by the region standard, which is nothing like Paris traffic jams)

I found a track!

http://www.circuitdebresse.com/fr/droit-de-piste-karting-roulage-journee.html

They have a track day on April 13th. It’s 200€ (180€ if you already have an insurance which covers you on a track) but you get a full day of racing (3 hr in the morning, 4 hr in the afternoon, but it alternates between karts and cars, so half of that I guess).

There are 2 another tracks that may do the trick, but the dates are not in yet:

I hadnt sent any emails yet, I wanted to ask you to help me out with that, assuming you spoke French....but that trackday looks very good.

What I had in mind for the Oppo Meet was renting a track for a couple of hours, but I think thats going to be an expensive undertaking...

Yeah, renting a track is quite an undertaking. I do speak French, so I can help you with the emails, no problem. Plus, I have time on my hands right now.

I’ll contact the racetracks that have not given their date yet, and also ask the one that did if it’s possible to stay half a day for half the price .

Hey guys, after further analysis here is what I can propose for us to get some track time.

Circuit de Bresse :

http://www.circuitdebresse.com/fr/droit-de-piste-auto-roulage-soiree.html

They offer 1h30 of track time on every friday night. It’s 80€ for 1 pilot if your insurance does not cover you on a race track, or 60€ if you have said insurance. If 1h30 is too much of if 80€ is too steep, and if you’re comfortable sharing your car, you can pay 110€ (with insurance) for 2 pilots in one car.

This track is in the southern region of where we’d be going :

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Circuit+de+Bresse/@46.5514585,5.3264374,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47f32df465376feb:0x163064b0979d81f7!8m2!3d46.5514585!4d5.3286261

Circuit de Chambley :

http://www.circuitchambley.com/activites-circuit-francis-maillet-chambley/planning-roulage-auto/

This track offers to pay per 20 minute sessions (25€ per session). That’s quite reason able.

However, t his track is a bit far from our destination, but it’s still doable I think : https://www.google.com/maps/place/Circuit+de+Chambley/@49.0265318,5.8893648,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x27cf8cac95460fe9!8m2!3d49.0266132!4d5.8914185

Geoparc :

http://www.geoparc.com/roulagepiste-journeeopen-coaching/

They allow to pay for 1h of track time during track days (it’s 60€ for an hour), but the dates do not match ours. However, they offer private coaching any day of the week, so maybe we can negociate to have access to the track on hour on a slow day and have some sort of private trackday. That sounds like a long shot.

It’s right where we go though: https://www.google.com/maps/place/GEOPARC/@48.3010557,6.9151177,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x4793ec45fe9367fb:0x607811c61161ad31!8m2!3d48.3010557!4d6.9173064

L’Anneau du Rhin and Circuit de Chenevières:

Both these tracks only allows for a full day reservation so they are out.

I haven’t checked racetracks in Switzerland or Germany, so I any of know about those they are welcome to add suggestions.

Alternatively, we could go karting which seems to be an easier option (plus there will be some fair competition with the same vehicles racing !)
